Tel Aviv Soup Kitchen, September 29: Hard Stories, Good News

On Tuesday, September 29, Gleb came to our Tel Aviv soup kitchen for the first time. He sat down, ate, and was happy to have a meal. By the end of the day, we would hear joyful news about someone else we knew well. In between were conversations that reminded us why we keep opening the door.

Gleb’s first visit to the soup kitchen began with a welcome and a meal.

Asaf sat with Elias and shared a loss that has stayed with him. His wife and daughter were killed in an accident in Australia. Since then, he has struggled with drug use. He said the pain makes it hard to stop, and he is not ready to take that step. Elias spent time talking with him. Please pray for Asaf as he carries this grief.

Admitt was thinking about a different step. She said she would come back in an hour so we could help look for a place in rehabilitation. We hoped we would be able to find one for her. Her words mattered, even though we did not yet know what would happen next.

Amit said she would return so we could help look for a rehabilitation place.

Around the table, other needs were just as immediate. Eden said her stomach hurt too much for her to eat. Rachelli, whom we shared about in our previous soup kitchen story, did not want breakfast either. She was feeling low, and her baby had still not arrived. She wondered whether she had her dates wrong. Please keep both women in your prayers.

We are also praying for Oriel. The last time we saw her, she was quiet and sad, yet polite and deeply grateful for the gifts she received. We do not know what she is facing now, but we remember her.

Later, outside the soup kitchen, Antuaneet noticed an older man feeding cats nearby. There were kittens too. It was a small moment of care on a street where people and animals alike depend on someone stopping to notice them.

Then, that evening, encouraging news arrived about Benjamin. In an earlier update, we had found him back in his old spot on the street. Now he is doing well at Beit HaYeshua. He enjoys being with the other men, including Pastors Oleg and Roni, and he is allowing people there to pray for him. We have never seen him so peaceful, talkative, and happy.

Benjamin’s news brought us joy. We thank God for it, and we keep praying for the people whose next steps are still uncertain: for Asaf in his grief, for Amit as she considers rehabilitation, for Eden and Rachelli, and for Oriel. Every person who comes through the soup kitchen door has a name and a story. We want them to know they are welcome at the table.
