A Door Opening in a Closed Place
There are moments in this work when something shifts without warning. This is one of them.
Through a partnership we have built with a local pastor and his congregation, we were recently introduced to two men from a sensitive area who are asking to be discipled. They came to faith out of Islam. They cannot meet with us openly. The risks of being seen with Christians where they live are not abstract, and we are taking that seriously.
Before moving forward we had to ask hard questions. There were enough signs early on to make us cautious, specifically around whether the interest was genuine or whether it was an attempt to extract financial support from Christians. We have seen that pattern before in this region. Elias made the decision to stop all financial aid to these men for now, so that we could see more clearly what is actually there. We also asked them to contribute a small amount each month toward the meeting space we are looking to rent. Their response to that request is something we are still watching and praying over.
We have found a simple, private space where teaching and discipleship can happen away from public view. Others who have walked the same road out of Islam will be part of the team walking with these men, which we believe matters. They are not hearing about Christ from the outside. They are hearing from people who know the cost.
We are not certain yet that this is real. We are saying that plainly because we think you should pray from that same honest place. What we are certain of is that the door is open and that we are walking toward it carefully, with our eyes open, asking God to show us what is there.
Pray that He does.
Thank you for praying with us. If you would like to walk alongside this work in any way, you are welcome to visit our Get Involved page.
