Broken Windows and Blooming Tables: A Sunday Update

Not every Sunday begins quietly. This one started with a smashed car window. A vandal had broken into our vehicle overnight, and the morning carried that weight before the doors even opened. We prayed for protection over our team and our vehicles, and then we kept going.

By the time the soup kitchen was ready, the tables had flowers on them. We were not sure they would last the day, but they were there. The food table had halva, sweets, and tomato and cucumber added to the sandwiches. Little by little, the space becomes something people want to sit in rather than just pass through.

Yonatan and Za’avid were among the first through the door, moving around the counter, helping themselves, present and at ease. Shmuel came in his orange work vest and sat quietly with his food. Tali stopped by the table, bag over her shoulder, taking a moment before moving on. Shir and Tania each came through as well, familiar faces returning to a familiar place.

Marina came in with cracked, dry hands. We had some cream and gave it to her, but then felt the need to be the one to apply it. She told us she is going into rehab in one week, and that afterwards she wants to come back and serve with us in the soup kitchen. Please pray that she follows through.

Thank you for praying with us. If you would like to walk alongside this work in any way, you are welcome to visit our Get Involved page.
